The Maytag Washing machine company was founded in 1893 by Fredrick Maytag. They were primarily a higher end laundry machine company during their 112 year history. Maytag pioneered many developments in appliances especially in the top load washer and other laundry products. The brand was commonly remember by the iconic Maytag man. Later, Maytag diversified into kitchen appliances after acquiring various companies like Amana Corporation. 

Maytag was acquired in 2006 by the Whirlpool Corporation which still markets products under the various Maytag brand names including Jenn-Aire .
